Donna Gentile started collecting used hub caps in 2011 so that she could one day paint them and offer workshops. That day came in 2015 when she opened The Hive, a meditative art studio in a renovated factory. There, she painted some of her first hub caps, and offered several Hub Cap Paint Nights, but Gentile doesn’t do well in old buildings and had to close The Hive—a blessing in disguise, which freed her up to focus on making art again!
Enter Brewery Legitimus…
Gentile pitched an idea to brewery owners Chris and Christina Sayer. She told them she’d like to create an evolving Hub Cap Art Wall where she would hang 10 (unpainted) recycled hub caps and take one down at a time to paint and return to the wall.
The owners loved the idea and the plan was set into motion with the first painted hub cap going up in June and a show running through mid-September, 2017.
